Just like regular tune-ups and oil changes keep your car working smoothly so you can get where you need to go, upgrading software maintains and improves the intended purpose of the product.

If you own Mekorma Payment Hub, formerly MICR, you may be familiar with the process of downloading and installing a new build. A build is a release of updated source code that includes fixes for outstanding issues and new features. Typically, Mekorma releases a build every quarter to ensure your payment process runs smoothly.

You can always download the latest build on our website. At the time of this publication, Mekorma has posted the latest Payment Hub version as Build x82, which references its incremental release number.

But why should I upgrade when everything is working just fine? Great question.

Fixes & New Features

As much as we’d like software to perform perfectly…it doesn’t always do that. Users get good at adapting to issues or bugs, even if that means taking a long and winding road to accomplish tasks. But when you stay current with your software, the most critical issues are remedied, so you can take the straightest path towards your goal.

Additionally, upgrading allows you to discover features that have evolved based on real-time feedback from users like yourself. By implementing product improvements, you’ll better solve common challenges and make your job more streamlined. The last several builds of the Payment Hub have included features that drive efficiency, particularly for payment approvals. If your approval process is highly manual or takes longer than it should, get in touch with us to discuss the benefits of Mekorma’s task-based security.

As of build x82, we’ve also added the ability to outsource your payments entirely, in response to the stessors of the pandemic. AP departments simply can no longer afford to run processes by pushing paper back and forth. Getting current with your Mekorma software will give you access to our ePayment solution – to find out if outsourcing – or other Payment Hub features you already own - are a fit for your company.

Our release notes list what’s new across all our solutions, and are available on a per-build basis. We encourage you to review and see how the new features might benefit you. Please know that when you upgrade Dynamics GP, it’s important to upgrade your Mekorma build for compatibility.

Cost Effectiveness

It may seem that retaining your aging software saves money. In reality, the effects of outdated software can be detrimental to your company’s continued success. Not having access to new and improved builds cause AP team members to perform tasks more slowly than necessary, wasting valuable human resources. Your payment cycle may suffer, leading to loss of vendor discounts or other missed opportunities.

Also, at a certain point, software companies may decide to stop supporting (or charge to support) older versions. It may no longer be financially viable to maintain systems or the staff training needed to effectively troubleshoot, especially as the number of users on earlier versions declines.

In fact, Mekorma implemented a Premium Support Fee in 2020 to account for the additional cost of supporting builds running on Dynamics GP 2015 and earlier. We recommend you plan to upgrade GP and Mekorma so that your company is not subject to the fee, and you maintain full access to our Product Support team under the standard annual maintenance plan.
